Neoplasms - 238.2 vs 239.2

Can a provider only report 239.2 if the pathologist has examined the sample and states the lesion exhibits uncertain behavior, or can this code be used when the provider "thinks" it might be but is waiting for the path report?

UNCERTAIN versus UNSPECIFIED

239.2 is for neoplasm of UNSPECIFIED NATURE which is not the same as uncertain behavior.

Uncertain behavior is to be used if the pathologist is uncertain of the behavior after histological review.

It is not to be used because the provider is uncertain of whether it is malignant or benign.
