What is the correct code for excision of a single external hemorrhoid?

46083/46320 for incision/excision of external hemorrhoid

46083 Incision of thrombosed hemorrhoid, external

Description of 46083: The physician performs incision of a thrombosed external hemorrhoid. The physician identifies the thrombosed external hemorrhoid. An incision is made in the skin over the hemorrhoid and the thrombus is removed. The incision is left open for continued drainage.



46320 Excision of thrombosed hemorrhoid, external

Description of 46320: The physician performs an excision of an external hemorrhoid that has become clotted with blood (thrombosed). Following appropriate anesthesia, the physician exposes the thrombosed external hemorrhoid. The hemorrhoid is completely excised with a scalpel. The site of the excision may be closed or left open to allow continued drainage.

If you look up 46250 in CPT® it instructs you to use 46999 for a hemorrhoidectomy, external, single column/group.
