Does anyone know if Medicare pays for Telephone evaluation and management service?
re: CPT 99441
Yes, Medicare is covering some telemedicine healthcare, but there are rules you need to be aware of. I would recommend verifying LCD’s in your Jurisdiction for documentation and compliance requirements.
If you are a Find-A-Code subscriber, there is a great article written on this, the title is, “Medicare Approves Reimbursement for Virtual Communication (G2012)”
For an additional source check out MLN Matters #10843 for information on “Communication Technology based services and payment for Rural Health Clinic (RHC) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC)”
There were several new codes released in 2019 such as 99446-99452. In addition, Brief communication technology-based service, e.g. virtual check-in (HCPCS code G2012) and Remote evaluation of recorded video and/or images submitted by an established patient (HCPCS code G2010).
If you have questions, your MACs may have more information. Find their website at http://go.cms.gov/MAC-website-list.
