Going forward, be sure you know the filing timeline for the State you are filing Medicaid claims for. If timely filing is the correct denial reason, you may be able to appeal if you didn't have the insureds correct information. I would suggest you contact your provider representative if you think it is an error, however, a filing time denial is pretty strict if it is indeed a late claim submission.
A few things you may consider:
- Be sure you don't have a TYPO on the New Year if you have an incorrect date, file a corrected claim using the claim frequency codes below.
- Check with your clearinghouse to see if a claim was actually sent within the filing time.
- Did the patient give you incorrect information
- Was there a group change with the insureds employeer?
