using v43.1 or v45.61 codes

We have been using 379.31 for our pseudophakic patients that have been coming into the office. I am trying to "update" our superbills and the only thing I can find to replace this is the V codes, which I understand is not a covered diagnosis code.

If there is no other diagnosis, what should we do with this code and will this now be considered "routine"

Thanks

re: using v43.1 or v45.61 codes

The only diagnosis code to use for pseudophakia is V43.1. 379.31 is for true aphakia when there is no lens in the eye. This is not new as these codes have been in use for years by Medicare. If you check the LCD of your Medicare MAC, these are the codes that you will find. Our MAC has always accepted V43.1 for pseudophakia.

Thank you. Our office manager retired after 25 years and I have been finding alot of codes that have been misused. That is why I am trying to change them all. Thanks for your help!
