45385, 45384-59

This started as a screening colonoscopy. Two polyps were removed by different techniques. I was curious to know if I should still apply the 33 modifier to 45385 showing that it started as screening and ended up diagnostic. Any thoughts???

Yes, if this is a private/comm insurance claim I would append the 33 modifier if this was a screening colonoscopy that resulted in a polypectomy.

When screening colons end up in polyps removed I bill 45385/PT and 45384/59 with V76.51 followed by 211.3. This iis the way we bill Medicare, Medicaid and some commercials. The PT tells them that the procedure was planned as a screening.
