small bowel resection

When a physician does a small bowel resection but only staples off the bowel ends with plans to anastomos the ends the next day how would you code the inital resection?

Depends what he is doing the next day. If he is essentially just finishing what he started, you could simply bill the complete code to encompass both surgeries. Bill it for the first date of service and then bill nothing for day two.

Really need to see both ops to say for sure.
