Pt being seen for bcp's, no pap done, what do we bill ?

Patient is being seen for bcp visit with our provider.
patient is 17 years old. No pap or pelvic exam was done.
breast exam and conversations regarding bcp's with a
prescription being issued.

what type of visit should be billed ? If we bill a preventative and the pertinent info is not covered and the pt comes back in 3 mos and wants a pap, we should be billing the preventative at that time.

help ????

I would just bill for an office visit with DX for BCP. If you bill with preventative codes then if the patient decides later (within the year) to have a pap done anywhere it will be denied unless her insurance plans as the benefits of unlimited preventative per year.

Good luck!

Actually, bill a OV w/ a counseling code. I'm sure the Dr. talked to them about how to take the pills or side effects etc...
