locum tenens

When you have a medical group of 2 or more doctors and you use a substitute doctor temporarily to one doctor (lets say for a week) can that substitute take over for a second doctor and the 60 day timelimit continue or start over?

Then, when you have a doctor that leaves the practive and you use a substitute doctor for the 60 days, is another doctor allowed to take over for the next 60 days, or when does it stop?

locum

One doctor may stay for 60 days only, billed under the provider number of the physician who is away. You can't bill using the provider number of the physician who is there.

After 60 days, you can hire another locum but the same one can't stay.

There is an article about locums in Codapedia, and it has a link to the CMS citation.
