re: Modifier 59

Medicare felt that modifier 59 had been inappropriately used and/or abused. Therefore, they have created the new modifiers. These new modifiers will be tracked by medicare. Modifier 59 will still be allowed but, it is not believed for long. Modifier 59 is not to be used when a more appropriate modifier is available. You are strongly encouraged by Medicare to use the new modifiers.
