linking resident documentation with attending - differeing dates of service

I'm looking for a CMS guideline that addresses the following:

Can an attending physician link to the residents documentation if the resident sees the patient for an admit on 11/13/09 at 10:45 pm and the attending does not see the patient until 11/14/09 at 8:15 AM, or, does the attending's documentation stand alone for the Admit DOS 11/14/09?
