NDC CODES....frustrated!

Gateway EDI rejects claims for drugs and vaccinations that do not include an 11-digit NDC code. It seems they are more particular since implementing 5010. The NDC codes on vials and on the NDC lookup websites all show 10-digit numbers. So, I end up playing around with it adding a "0" in front of the number. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Is anyone else having trouble with this and where can you verify the correct NDC?

Thanks

We had the same issue. See www.accessdata.fda.gov/ , for NDC directories. You can search by NDC number or partial numbers. Apparently there are "new" and "old" directories now for NDC numbers. If the NDC numbers haven't been submitted to the gov't electronically, they remain on the "old" directory -- some need the extra zero added at the beginning. We found others in the "old" list that now have an * in the middle with the second set of numbers to equal a fourth digit. The directions now say an * can be assigned by the firm to complete the 4 digit product code.

Thank you. I just found a good article that explains how it works, too. Thanks again for you help.

NDC have 5-4-2 numbers. Your zeros will go in front of the 5 or the 4
your NDC number 12345-6789-01
if it reads 1234-6789-01 ad the zero at the first 01234-6789-01
if it reads 12345-678-01 then ad the the zero in the second set i.e. 12345-0678-01.
hope this helps.
