CPT® 11450 versus 27337

The surgeon dictated removal of hydradenitis on the right thigh (27337) and the abdominal wall (22903). He documented skin and subcutaneous tissue and sizes were 8 cm and 4 cm. The path report came back with no hydradenitis, simply epidermal cyst with rupture with associated inflammation and abscess formation which is why body site codes were used versus hydradenitis codes... I want to confirm that this is the correct way to code it since the path report did not support what the physician called it. I am not questioning the coding of the diagnosis simply the CPT® code choice.

Thank you for your comments!

This is difficult to comment on because there is no actual procedure note. A coder and the physician assign a code based on op-note documentation. 11450 is not appropriate because it states "axillary".
