Arthroscopy

How is the correct way to bill 29884 and 29881 together? Are these codes inclusive to each other? I was told to bill 29884 with modifier 59 and 29881 with modifier 51 and I am getting the 29884 denied as inclusive. Please advice.

re: Arthroscopy

This is from CPT® assistant:
29884 Arthroscopy, knee, surgical; with lysis of adhesions, with or without manipulation (separate procedure)

CPT® code 29884 describes lysis of adhesions formed between the joint surfaces that may cause stiffness and reduced range of motion of the knee joint. This procedure may be performed with or without manipulation of the knee, which is done to break up any additional adhesions.

This code is designated as a separate procedure, therefore, it should not be reported separately when performed in addition to another major knee procedure, as it would be considered an integral component.
