follow up UTI

I work in a Family Practice clinic. One of our patients was dx w/UTI. The next day she dropped off a urine sample to test for f/u. It was negative. I don't know which ICD9 code to use for this test. Our MA didn't document any symptoms and doesn't remember any. Please advise. Thank you

re: follow up UTI

You are still treating the UTI. When it shows the UTI has resolved, anything after that is not UTI diagnosis.

I cannot find an ICD9 code that applies to a f/u with a negative 81003. Is there one that you know of? If not, how do I bill for this? Thank you

If she was dx with a UTI, and this is a f/u, you would code a screening code to indicate the reason you did the UA was to see if she had a bacteria, which she did not. If she was being screened to confirm the UTI dx, and it was discovered that she did NOT have it, you will need to sit with the MA/Dr to review possible symptoms, and review the previous OV when the pt saw the dr, it should be in the dr's notes as well...
