Assist Fee

I have a physician that is new to your office. He is a general surgeon. Our vascular surgeon had performed a bypass on a patient, and the vascular surgeon stated that the new phsysician (which is a general surgeon) had assisted him with the bypass. Is this ok to do or will we get in to some trouble billing this way? The new physician is credentialed as a general surgeon only.

assistant at surgery and specialty

There are no rules that require the assistant to be of the same specialty as the surgeon. In rural hospitals, they are often different.
