31000

I see this question was asked in 2010, but not answered, my provider does a lavage of the sinus and wants to use 31000 CPT®, is this correct? This looks like a surgery code. Any help is greatly appreciated

re: 31000

Patient instructed to stand over sink head down with mouth open. Using 30 cc of luke warm distilled water with NaCl instilled via 30 cc syringe into right nostril slowly. Return output collected for bacterial culture. Procedure is then repeated on the left nostril.
Patient tolerated procedure well. Culture sent to reference laboratory for analysis.

Does this qualify for 31000?

re: 31000

per the description in the Coders Desk reference it completely does, just make sure to add a modifier 50 for bilateral. :)

re: 31000

I can give you a definition of the code from the Coders Desk reference if you would like, also if the provider is doing the sphenoid sinus you should use code 31002!

re: 31000

I don't think they did the sphenoid sinus, that was directly from the patient chart. Thanks again for your help with this, you absolutely ROCK!
