Ob ultrasound

We recently added an ultrasound to our practice to do dating ultrasounds for our prenatal patients. When the patient comes in for her first visit, we bill for her pap and cultures but can I also bill for the ultrasound or should the patient return for this? If I can bill for it, do I need a modifier?? Sorry, this is really new to me.

re: OB ULTRASOUND

The problem you are going to find is when you do the ultrasound for dating some insurances do not want to pay for the visit. In their eyes this is when you should start the global period. The only modifier you will need is 25 on the visit code. We do the ultrasound on the initial prenatal visit and do the annual or confirmation of pregnancy visit seperately unless patient is complaining of complications. Hope this helps, this can be very confusing.
