Procedures with Diagnosis code

If your diagnosis is : 286.7 and it states for you to use the E codes if drug induced (and it was). Would you need to use the V58.69 also or just the E850.1 and E850.2 ?
Thank You!

re: Procedures with Diagnosis code

It all depends on the documention.

If the patient is taking methadone that is prescribed to him and he is having a condition as a result of the drug that is being taken correctly then it would be coded 286.7 followed by an ecode E935.1 "drugs causing adverse effects in thereapeutic use." and you could also use the long term drug use V58.69

If this patient took it without being prescribed this drug and overdosed or had a reaction then you would have to use 965.02 Poisoning by Methadone (which is an opiod) followed by 286.7 and e code E850.1

but you definately need to use an ecode.
