Crna billing in an office setting for bcbs michigan

We have a group of CRNA's who are administering anesthesia in an office
setting where they are doing pain management. The procedure code is
almost exclusively 01992. The only issue they have is that they are not
able to bill BCBS for their services in an office. Is there any way that CRNA's
can get reimbursed for their services, perhaps by the surgeon billing for them?
Would he be able to bill for both his procedure and the anesthesia administra-
tion as 2 separate lines on a HCFA? Your answer will go directly to the group,
who are really (!) insistent that I find a solution to this issue, even though
prior to signing up with us, I expressly told them that CRNA anesthesia is not
a covered benefit by BCBSM in the office!! Please help!!

Thank you!

re: CRNA BILLING IN AN OFFICE SETTING FOR BCBS MICHIGAN

Have the same issue in VA. Our state law says a CRNA can be considered supervised when the supervisor is accessible by phone or is an hour away. Anthem follows state law. So we have the supervising Anesthesiologist sign the anesthesia notes and bill the service as supervised. You might start with Michigan law regarding CRNA's and supervision.

re: CRNA BILLING IN AN OFFICE SETTING FOR BCBS MICHIGAN

Thanks for the quick response, but these are unsupervised CRNA's, modifier QZ.
They do have an anesthesiologist who would be willing to sign the charts and
be available for supervision, but even if you billed with a QX showing CRNA was
supervised, it would still be rejected as done in an office. Unless you are billing
under the anesthesiologist with a QK or an AA modifier?
