Bundling of 99214 & 76817

I am receiving a denial for code 99214 because we performed a 79817 on tge same day. I can not find any documentation stating these can not be billed on the same day.

79817

What diagnosis(s) were submitted? Why was the Level 4 visit medically necessary and there is no such code (79817)

OK, so sometimes if you just look at it a couple more times, you can find the answers. We billed 99214 DX V22.1 & 76817(not 79817 sorry) DX 640.03, OK I get the 99214 should have DX 640.03. Patient had an ultrasound 2 weeks prior and we were trying to determine vaible pregnancy at this vist. But the insurance company is stating codes 99214 & 76817 bundle and are not seperatley reimburseable on the same day?

76817

This code describes a transvaginal ultrasound on a pregnant uterus. Typically 76817 is used in the first trimester but may also be used later in a pregnancy to evaluate cervical length and the position of the placenta relative to the internal cervical os. I question code 99214 if you are billing global OB care. Otherwise, medical necessity is at play. Check your billing and rules for treating OB patients and the Global codes for this type of care (594xx series).

The 99214 would have been part of the global maternity charge, however, the patient later transferred care and we were billing out for the visits we saw the patient.
