Billing within postop period by different surgeon

Patient has same procedure in the same eye w/in 90 postop but the second procedure was performed by a different provider. Can you bill the patient for this procedure? Patient is self pay.

Yes, you can bill the patient for the procedure. You would need to add modifier 77 to the 2nd procedure. "Modifier 77 is used to indicate that the same procedure was performed on a patient, but the service was done by a different physician than the first procedure. Use this modifier on the same day or during the global period of the first service. Use the same CPT® code. The procedure report should show the medical necessity for the repeat procedure. "
