E/M coding

When we bill for E/M (for example CPT® 99202), should an ICD-9 accompany that E/M code? Or do you only bill with the CPT® code and any appropriate modifier?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

Are you asking if there should be an ICD-9 diagnosis code with E/M CPT® code (in which case I'd say the answer is yes - without a problem to evaluate and manage you can't support billing an E/M code)?

Or are you asking if there should be an ICD-9 procedure code (in which case I don't think you need that as well as the CPT® code)?

Or something else entirely?
