Nurse Visits for Preop
Patient is scheduled to come to the office to see the RN for pre-op care including signing consent form, pre-op and post-op instructions, is this a billable service (99211)? The patient does not see the Physician on this date.
Thank you.

nurse visit for pre-op
Nancy was too brief. She meant to say, NO, NO and NO Way! but she was too polite.
The pre-op paperwork, informed consent, instructions, etc are all paid as part of the surgical fee. Whether the MD saw the patient or not, it is not separately payable once the decision for surgery was made.
This has been the case for a long time, but the May 2010 CPT Assistant answered in very clearly, leaving no questions or ambiguities.
