996.4 states "orthopedic device" 996.7 Is for other internal device. For example if you have a renal dialysis access complication you would use 996.73. For a prosthetic hip replacment dislocation you would use 996.42
re: mechanical complication
Thank you for reply, but 996.78 also has orthopedic device, implant, and graft.
then, what is the difference 996.78 and 996.4 family?
The meaning of "mechanical" does not matter to choose this code?
Please some more information.
re: mechanical complication
I interpret this 996.4 as meaning there is a Mechanical Complication of the implant not working properly or broken and 996.7 as meaning that due to the Mechanical Complication the patient now has an infection, stenosis, or something of that nature. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
