Abscess coding

I read somewhere that on a I&D a culture should be done every time and results documented for proper coding. Is this correct? or is this just a suggestion? I work in Urgent Care and we do a lot of these not all get a culture. Should I be advising my providers to do this for correct documentation? Thank you!
