HCPCS Codes

The S codes in the HCPCS Book - when and why would you use any of these codes, I have to give an answer on Monday to a Physician who is using it because he sees it in his EMR (E-Clinical). One thing I know it cannot be used for MCare. Any help?

HCPCS “S” codes. “S” codes are national, non-Medicare codes that may be used by commercial insurance companies such as Blue Cross-Blue Shield.
