Coding for removal of 20 skin tags

We typically use procedure code 17000 for 1st skin tag removal, and 17003 for additional removals. However, I understand that you can only bill up to 14 using code 17003. I cannot find any guidance for more skin tags than that.

also, when would it be appropriate to use 11200?
thanks

re: Coding for removal of 20 skin tags

I work for a surgeon's office and we do remove skin tags in the office and I use codes 11200 & 11201. I have not ever used 17000 for skin tags. I use that code for premalignant lesions like actinic keratosis lesions. I don't believe skin tags are premalignant.

17000 is for a premalignant lesion, not skin tags. You should report the skin tag removal code. Some payers will consider this cosmetic, so the patient may have to pay.
