Therapeutic Phlebotomy

Would you bill differently if you removed 2 pints of blood versus 1 pint?

re: Therapeutic Phlebotomy

Typically, therapeutic phlebotomy may consist of removal of 1 unit (350 to 450 ml). The CPT® code does not give unit numbers. Providers use therapeutic phlebotomy to reduce a patient’s total blood volume, decrease the number of red cells, or reduce high amounts of iron in the blood. (code 99195). May take more than 1 unit. Still 1 code.
