Can anyone tell me if you can bill CPT® code 98940 with 97140 (with modifier 59 and a seperate diagnosis). This has never been a problem in the past but now we are getting denials from BCBS of IL.

Per NCCI edits 97140 is a component of 98940 and may be billed separately with mod 59 if the note supports billing above and beyond what is normally described in 98940. The CPT® code description of 98940 includes manipulation of 1 or more regions. 97140 is for manipulation of 1-2 regions.
