E & M with injections

Patient comes in for allergic rhinitis and physician gives Medrol injection. Am I able to bill the E & M, admin, and J1030?

Yes with 25 modifier on office visit and a different diagnosis.

re: E & M with injections

please explain further why there would need to be a "different Dx" (in the answer to the inquiry re: E&M coding, admin of an injection, and the "J"-code of the med injected)? Sounds as if the Medrol dose-pack was provided for the "allergic rhinitis", and not some other condition - so why would there need to be something different for the Dx? Please provide add'l education??

I would bill the E&M with 25 modifier. You can use the same Dx code. Example: Pt sees Dr. for severe pain, decision is made to give block in affected area. Both CPTs would be billed with the same icd9 code.

re: E & M with injections

the exception to this would be that patient was scheduled to come in for injections and then you cannot bill for the E&M unless a seperate DX as been assessed during the visit, but if the visit was stricly made for the patient to have injections for pain or getting depos shot, ect, then you should only be billing for the injections, this also includes injections for flu, or if their coming in for immunizations shots and no other work up is being performed.:)
