Can a physician bill a consult on the same day as the EMG is being done?

Any test done in order to render an opinion requested by another physician can be billed in addition to the consult. All services must be medically necessary and all criteria met for the consult.

So Nancy....

if the doctor did the EMG and found neuropathy and prescribed a medication at the same visit, would the visit still qualify as a consultation or does the treatment make it a New Patient visit??

If the criteria for a consult was met and subsequent to the consult (can be same encounter), treatment was undertaken, it is still a consult.
