Modifier help

Pt was seen in the office for consultation in the morning and the service was billed. Pts condition worsened and he ended up having emergency surgery by same consultant physician the same day. Since the E&M has already been billed without the modifer -57, I am concerned, from previous experiences, that the surgery will be denied global. Is it appropriate to use modifier 58 or 79 on the surgery?

No, appeal the E/M if denied. Modifier 57 can only be used on E/M code, modifier 58 is inappropriate and so is modifier 79.
