Physician Assistant and Physician --COMMERCIAL

We are in the primary care office setting. Our physician assistant needed the doctor to come into the exam room and perform a portion of the visit.

The patient has a commercial policy, nonmedicare. According the insurance's guidelines, we must bill under the NPI of the provider who saw the patient.

Since they both saw the patient, How would I bill this? Would we base it on who did the MAJORITY of the exam? any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Whoever performed the key components and documented same, bills the service.
