Requested modifire for 99244

Hi, I am receiving a denial from cigna for CPT® code 99244 stating "this procedure code represents service intergal to the more complex primary procedure submitted on this claim". We billed same day 99244,(used modifire 25) 93015. We get the payment only one procedure 93015,99244 denied as mentioned above. Can anyone tell me the modifier for this procedure? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You...

As with Medicare, Cigna does not accept 99244 any longer. You have to use a new or established patient visit 99202-99205 or 99212-99215. This may be the resaon for the denial.

The 99244 is no longer accepted, it this is a new patient read the medical records and code it accordingly or if this is an established patient you would need to read the notes and code it accordingly as well.

Once you get the correct code rebill the entire claim hardcopy as a corrected claim with the 25 modifier appended to the new or established patient visit and make sure to stamp the claim as a corrected claim, as the carriers a good at denying the claim as a corrected claim.
