Skull Base approach codes

Can Skull Base approach codes be reported without the definitive procedure?

re: Skull Base approach codes

Yes, as long as another surgeon is reporting a corresponding definitive procedure code. But an approach code cannot be billed by itself without another surgeon (or the same surgeon) billing a definitive procedure code.

re: Skull Base approach codes

Kim,

Do you think that it would be appropriate to report a skull base approach and skull base definitive procedure for the repair of an encephalocele with alloderm instead of 62120 or 62121 when there are 2 surgeons workings as co-surgeons?

No. CPT® 62120 or 62121 with modifier 62 is more appropriate.
