Aspiration or Injection During a global

Does anyone know if there is a way to bill for an aspiration to a knee for an effusion when the pt is in the global period after a knee surgery.

Can you bill for an injection for pain to a joint during a related global?

Any procedure rendered during a global period (complications/dressing changes, etc) that do not require a return to OR are included in global period. pain management is a component of the global package. Exception: Treatment for the underlying condition or an added course of treatment which is not part of the normal recovery from surgery can be separately billed. (modifier 79).
