Colonoscopy not performed

GI doc sees a Medicare pt. before screening colonoscopy and discovers the pt. is on short term(less than 6 months) coumadin treatment for recent PE. The GI doc decides to wait until pt is off coumadin, since no significant GI symptoms. I am aware of the whole "Medicare won't reimburse the pre-screening colonoscopy office visit" issue but what about this scenario? Diagnosis codes? Is it billable to Medicare?

prescreen for colonoscopy

Not unless the patient has a symptom or diagnosis to warrant the office visit, the screening, regardless if the colonoscopy was carried out or not will not be a covered item.
