Colonoscopy vs. Sigmoidoscopy
If a scope reaches the transverse colon, is this coded as a colonoscopy or a sigmoidoscopy? I have a surgeon that stated sigmoidoscopy on his report but the scope went past the splenic flexure into the transverse colon. I wanted to code 45378-52, but he wants me to code 45330. Not sure what's the correct thing to do. Any advice? Thanks.

re: Colonoscopy vs. Sigmoidoscopy
If the scope does not pass the splenic flexure it is a reduced colon. The reimbursement is the same as a flex but I bill 45378-53 so when the procedure is repeated it does not get denied.
