what is the difference between cms and CPT® surgical package?

CPT® and CMS are mostly the same in their description of the package. However, CMS does not allow you to bill any related E/M services during the follow up period for complications, infections, etc. Only unrelated E/M services may be billed. A return trip to the OR is required in order to bill for services related to the original procedure.

CPT® describes the post op care as "typical" care." Some groups are successful at billing complications to commercial insurances in the post op period.
