skin abscess

Pt have a boil in his inguinal area. Doc drain the abscess. He did not mention I & D in the chart. Doc just mentioned draining abscess. What code should I use for this procedure? Thanks!

to answer this correctly, you need to go to the provider and ask how he drained the boil. If an incision was made on the boil then u can use the I&D code, If no I&D was done I would just code it as a office visit depending on the documentation that is provided, possilby a 99213.
