excision cyst

We had a pt who came in with a tick bite. It got infected and we treated for 2 months on oral abx. He came in again and it needed to be removed. Dr states excision lesion of .65cm using CPT® 11401. What dx would I use for this?

re: excision cyst

A tick is a foreign body, code 10120 (subcutaneous), simple; if complicated, code 10121. Choose 910-919’s third digit based on the bite’s location. For instance, a bite on the forearm goes to “913.4 or 913.5 (Superficial injury of elbow, forearm, and wrist …) dependent on whether it is infected (5) or not (4)”,

The tick had been removed two months prior. So would I still use the same code. The bite site got infected and then the dr ended up excising and removing a cyst that would not go away after tx /c abx for two months

You code what you do.. If an I&D of a cyst, code that. Look to procedure note and confer with physician.
