icd coding question

How would you ICD 9 code metastic carcinoma of transverse colon. I know that I need two codes but don't understand how to sort it out

If you mean the transverse colon is the primary site, you would code 153.1. If the colon is secondary, you would code 197.5.

Look under neoplasm, intestine, transverse and you will find your codes.

If the transverse colon is primary site then 153.1 and 199.1 as the unknown site it has spread too.
