billing by assistant surgeon

I am an Ob/Gyn, and I have malpractice insurance only for minor gyn procedures. Now I had a patient who needed a gyn procedure for which I did not have coverage, so I did the procedure together with another physician who did have the appropriate coverage. Now this other surgeon does not wish to bill for the procedure but he would like to assign to me the insurance benefits for the procedure. Is this acceptable?
