Ppd inj

I billed 90471 and 86580 (PPD) w/ V74.1 to Medicare, Medicare denied it because its part of the routine exam. Do I billed it with 96372 or 86580 alone? Thanks!

re: PPD INJ

86850 is a TB skin test, testing for TB, it is not a vaccine for TB that is why MCR is denying the charges. 90471 is only for the administration of a vaccine and you are not billing out a vaccine code to cohert with the administration charge(90471). If you are only doing a TB skin test it is billed out with the lab code 86580 which covers injecting the TB culture under the patient's skin and checked out intervals of 24,48 and 72 hours for evidence of a reaction. DO NOT USE AN INJECTION CODE FOR THIS(96372 OR 90471). hope that helps:)
