Office visit

Pt was seen in office. Only vitals were taken and nurse advised Dr. of abnormal findings. Dr. sent patient straight to emergency department. Can I bill 99211 for the office visit?

re: Office visit

CPT® defines this code as an “office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of an established patient that may not require the presence of a physician.” It further states that the presenting problems are usually minimal, and typically five minutes are spent performing or supervising these services.

sounds like a trip to the ER isn't minimal!

yes, you should be able to bill 99211 for this, as it's typically for only a 5' contact, and the prescriber does not have to be in the room.
