Peak flow

Peak-flow rate monitoring should not be billed separately because it is an inherent part of the E/M exam

Putting together an asthma action plan is part of E/M medical decision making.

* 98960 Education and training for patient self- management by a qualified, nonphysician health care professional using a standardized curriculum, face-to- face with the patient (could include caregiver/family) each 30 minutes, individual patient.

* 98961 2-4 patients

* 98962 5-8 patients
You have to verify coverage with specific payors for these codes as many do not separately reimburse. Medicare considers them bundled and not separately paid.

Code for Peak Flow is 94150 (if it it done alone and not part of other pulmonary test procedures). It IS billable with E/M IF the E/M is separately identifiable according to the section notes and CPT Assistant Jul 05:11

As for asthma teaching, exactly what kind of "teaching" are you doing ?? General info about asthma and it's symptoms, triggers and management would all be included in the E/M unless you are performing organinzed training sessions using a standardized curriculum. 94664 however, can be used when training patients how to use metered dose inhalers or home nebulizers. Again, there would have to be a separately identifiable E/M to bill both. (CPT Assistant April 00:11)
