Anesthesia Pain

I code for a teaching hospital. Our pain faculty are performing "facet injections"in the hospital as an outpatient in day surgery... This particular case has a CRNA and the surgeon is also administering the anesthesia (fentanyl and versed). He is calling this "Procedure Sedation". Can the surgeon document induction and availability, emergence, and post op? How can I bill for time under the anesthesiologist and surgeon's same dr. #.
This is in Texas.
Thanks for your help.

re: Anesthesia Pain

The surgeon cannot do both. He is the surgeon (facet injection) or the anesthesia provider.

The payer will determine by individual policy about reimbursement for MS (99143-99145) with Facet joints with trained observer. It really depends on the carrier. Tricare and BCBS carriers do not or may not cover it. Medicare does cover it, document who observed, the medication, how much, and how long... it's very important to have this information in the record. Medical necessity may also cause denials.
