Timely Filing

Hi! I am wondering if there are ever any exceptions to timely filing. Will the insurance pay a claim after the max claim filing date? If so, what would the procedure be to submitting that kind of claim?
I thought I had posted this question already but I don't see it on here, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate.
Thanks!
Michelle

re: Timely Filing

Need to know why the claim was not filed timely.

re: Timely Filing

You would either need to show proof that you attempted to file within time limit (screen print from computer or info from electronic claims report) OR if the insurance had not been provided to you- send a letter along with the claim with explanation.

That has worked in the past for our office.

re: Timely Filing

If you have a big problem: someone left and didn't file any claims before they went, and you just discovered it, you can sometimes get your provider rep to accept a one-time billing of all past filing limit claims.

If it was a coordination of benefits issue, you might try appealing with proof of sending the claim to the other insurer.

re: Timely Filing

Thank you for your help. It was denied as timely filing because the gal who was here before me never sent the claim out. I found it and billed it, figuring I'd be within the time limits but come to find out this carrier has a 6 month timely filing limit.
