If there is a NP note instead of a Resident note, can the Attending physican who is billing for the service render to a tie end note with the NP as they would with a resident's note...

So either we bill under the NP or not. As per my NP they won't let us bill under her..in talking with her it seems the Hospital does not want to credential her..still new here, not sure why that is, because i would generate $$ for the department..I might not be talking to the right people..Our team NP does orders and discharge instruction on all our Trauma patient, but i can bill for her time. I believe they want all the billing to go under the Attending, even though she is carring out the order as well as documenting..

NP, residents, teaching physicians

First, where was the service performed, in the office or in the hospital?

Was a resident involved as well as an NP or only an NP?

If in the hospital, and it was a shared service between an MD and an NP, see the shared services rules:

http://www.codapedia.com/-article_356_.cfm

You can't add together NP, resident and attending.

If there is no resident, and the NP and the MD are performing a shared service, you can bill for it. Keep in mind that critical care may not be shared between an NP and an MD.

Also, these are Medicare rules: check with your private payers for their rules.
